Summary

Ash Creek Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Monmouth, Oregon, serving grades K-5 with a total enrollment of 436 students. The school is part of the Central School District 13J, which is ranked 127 out of 140 districts in Oregon and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger. Ash Creek Elementary School has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Oregon elementary schools, with a 1-star rating for most years.

Ash Creek Elementary School has struggled with high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 31.6% to 42.1% over the past few years, significantly higher than the state average. The school's test scores in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science are also consistently lower than the state and district averages. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 27.3% of 3rd graders were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 40.3% statewide. The school's performance across all grade levels and subject areas is below the state and district benchmarks. When compared to nearby schools, such as Monmouth Elementary School and several schools in the Salem-Keizer School District 24J, Ash Creek Elementary School is an underperforming school.

The high rates of free and reduced-price lunch recipients (over 64% in recent years) at Ash Creek Elementary School suggest that socioeconomic factors may be playing a significant role in the school's performance. Additionally, the high chronic absenteeism rates could be contributing to the low test scores and overall academic achievement. Despite having a relatively high per-student spending of $18,036 in the 2022-2023 school year, the school's resources do not seem to be translating into improved student outcomes, indicating that the school may need to re-evaluate how it is allocating and utilizing its resources.

Open Quote Great School my daughter transferred from other school to this school and she likes it. The rooms are inside the building which are safe for students not unlike at Monmouth Elementary School every one can go wait outside the door to get students. In this school to go to daughter's room we must sign in at the office. Close Quote

Open Quote School implemented 20 minutes reading at home from Monday- Friday. Since school started my daughter read everyday even Sat and Sun if she feels bored. When my daughter started her 1st grade she can only read single word and was slow but still can't read one sentence. now her progress report states that her reading level is of 3rd grade.
