Summary

Falls City Elementary School is a small, rural public school in Falls City, Oregon (Polk County) serving 116 students in grades K–8 as the only school in the Falls City School District 57. The school has slid in state rankings for a decade and is now second-to-last in Oregon for 2025–26 (708th of 709), with the lowest proficiency in every subject tested compared to nearby schools.

In 2025–26, the school posted proficiency rates of 8.5% in English language arts, 5.7% in math, and 9.1% in science—far below Oregon’s 43.8%, 32.9%, and 30.6%. Nearby K–8 peers do much better: Luckiamute Valley Charter School (60.3% ELA, 52.9% math, 53.7% science) and Faulconer-Chapman School (24.2% ELA, 17.3% math, 14% science). The school spends $42,435 per student—the most in its comparison group—and has the smallest classes (12.2 students per teacher), yet the worst outcomes.
