Tigard-Tualatin School District 23J, serving the Tigard and Tualatin communities southwest of Portland, enrolls about 11,342 students across 19 schools: 12 elementary, 3 middle, 3 high, and 1 alternative school. The Tigard-Tualatin School District 23J ranks 24th of 141 Oregon districts (83rd percentile, 4 stars), and its all-grade proficiency beats the state in ELA (48.3% vs. 43.8%), math (37.3% vs. 32.9%), and science (31.5% vs. 30.6%). Enrollment ranges from 118 at Tigard-Tualatin Virtual Academy to 1,771 at Tigard High School.

The strongest standouts are elementary schools. Art Rutkin Elementary School ranks 60th of 709 elementary schools (92nd percentile, 5 stars) with 64.2% ELA, 63.9% math, and 51.4% science, plus the district's lowest chronic absenteeism at 9.2%. Multi-sensory Instruction Teaching Children Hands-On (MITCH) ranks 89th of 709 with the district's highest math (67.0%) and science (52.0%). Mary Woodward Elementary School (83rd percentile) and Metzger Elementary School, which climbed to 199th of 709, also perform well. Among secondary schools, Twality Middle School leads middle schools (70th percentile), while Tigard High School outranks Tualatin High School (76th vs. 41st percentile) despite similar spending and class sizes; both graduate students above district and state rates.

Challenges are concentrated in upper grades and alternative settings. Chronic absenteeism is 45.9% at Tigard High, 50.0% at Tualatin High, 54.1% at the Virtual Academy, and 86.7% at Creekside Community High School, where test scores are under 5% and the graduation rate is 56.9%. Alberta Rider Elementary School has also slipped to 45th percentile with 20.0% science.
