Talent Elementary School up 93 spots statewide this year
Summary:

Talent, Oregon has two public schools: Talent Elementary School, serving grades K–5, and Talent Middle School, serving grades 6–8. Both belong to Phoenix-Talent School District 4, which is ranked 101 of 141 Oregon districts (28th percentile, 1 star). Together the two schools enroll 834 students, and there is no high school in the city, so students continue elsewhere after 8th grade.

Talent Elementary is the standout. Its 2025–26 ranking is 214 of 709 schools (70th percentile, 3 stars), up from the 43rd percentile two years earlier. It scores above both the district and the state in ELA (51.5% vs. 36.9% district and 43.8% state), math (44.9% vs. 25.4% and 32.9%), and science (37.7% vs. 23.9% and 30.6%). Chronic absenteeism is 22.0%, well below the district's 35.8% and the state's 33.5%. Its 5th grade ELA score of 62.3% is the highest in this data set. With 100% free/reduced lunch reported, these results stand out even more.

Talent Middle is the main concern. It ranks 292 of 371 schools (21st percentile, 1 star) and, while it has improved from the 10th percentile, it remains in the bottom quartile. It trails the state in every subject — ELA 29% vs. 43.8%, math 18.2% vs. 32.9%, science 21.7% vs. 30.6% — and its 6th grade math score of 14.2% is the lowest in the data set. Absenteeism of 33.0% is roughly at the state level (33.5%) and better than the district (35.8%), a relative bright spot. Its reported free/reduced lunch figure above 100% is likely a reporting artifact, but signals near-universal economic disadvantage. Spending is $23,201 per student with an 18.3 student-teacher ratio, compared with $26,000 and 17.6 at the elementary school. Math support at the middle school is the clearest priority.
