Berkshire High School's academic performance is generally on par with or slightly better than the nearby James A. Garfield High School and Bloomfield High School. However, the school lags behind the higher-performing schools in the area, such as Chagrin Falls High School, Kenston High School, and West Geauga High School, which consistently rank among the top high schools in Ohio. This may be due to Berkshire High School's relatively higher percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients and lower per-student spending compared to the higher-performing schools in the region.

Open Quote The school has a terrible music program and the athletic department leaves a lot to be desired. The academics are hit and miss, with a fair number of bad teachers. It seems there are a decent portion of the students who wish they could go to school somewhere else. There is just something wrong with the atmosphere of the school which is spotlighted by the unfortunate number of student suicides the last four years. Close Quote
