Summary

Hilliard Heritage Middle School is a grades 6–8 school serving 791 students in Hilliard, Ohio, part of the Hilliard City district and located in a tight cluster of Hilliard middle schools. After nearly a decade as a steady, mid-pack school — ranked between 405th and 451st of roughly 1,046 Ohio middle schools — Heritage posted a breakout 2025–26, landing 289th statewide (72nd percentile, 4 stars), the highest rank and only 4-star rating in its ten-year record. That is a jump of about 116 places in a single year.

The gains were broad rather than isolated. Seventh grade math (63.0%), seventh grade English language arts (76.6%), eighth grade ELA (68.6%), and eighth grade science (73.9%) all run roughly 11–14 points above the state average, and every one improved year over year. Advanced math remains Heritage's signature: Geometry results are reported at 100% and Algebra I at 98%, some 20–35 points above the district and far above the state, sustained over four years. Chronic absenteeism has also fallen sharply, from 21.9% in 2021–22 to 14.6%, though it remains above the district's 12.2%.

Two areas lag. Eighth grade math proficiency (53.2%) is below the district's 60.4% and barely above the state, making it the one core subject where Heritage trails its own district. Hilliard Weaver Middle School — 1.1 miles away, in the same district, with a similar share of low-income students — manages 99.4% Algebra I and 69.1% on eighth grade math while reaching the 86th percentile, the clearest benchmark Heritage has not yet matched. Heritage is also only average (52nd percentile) for its low-income students, who make up about a third of the building, even as most other groups rank in the 70s and 80s. The key question for next year is whether 72nd percentile becomes the new normal.
