Lakota Plains Junior School is a grades 7–8 school of 745 students in Liberty Township, Ohio — the largest of the four junior highs in Lakota Local — and in 2025‑26 it ranked #200 of 1,046 Ohio middle schools (81st percentile, 4 stars), slightly above its own district's standing.

The long view matters most. The school was #58 of 1,038 (94th percentile, 5 stars) in 2016‑17 and still 90th percentile in 2017‑18, but has since settled onto a plateau roughly 10–13 percentile points below that peak, slipping again to 81st this year. Math shows the sharpest split: Lakota Plains is first among district junior highs in 7th‑grade math (76.1) but last in 8th‑grade math (56.6), its only subject below the district average (63.5). Math 8 has been flat near 57 for four years while the district climbed about 13 points; Hopewell Junior School, the district's top performer there, is 12.5 points higher. Science 8 also fell below district level for the first time (76.3). The strengths are real: Algebra I and Geometry proficiency are both 100%, and ELA 8 rebounded to 76.5 while ELA 7 beats the state by 13.6 points. Lakota Ridge Junior School rose from 65th to 82nd percentile and Liberty Junior School reached 90th, while Lakota Plains is the only Lakota junior high moving sideways or down.

Attendance is the standout success: chronic absenteeism is 12.9%, the lowest of every comparison school — below Creekside Middle School (18.7%) and far below Wilson Middle School (33.6%), Garfield Middle School (31.4%), and New Miami Middle School (48.7%) — down from 21.3% four years ago, despite the largest class loads in the group (26.1 students per teacher, versus 20.3 at Liberty). Two subgroups need attention: special education (40th percentile) and low-income (49th percentile) students have each dropped roughly 30 percentile points in two years to 2 stars, even as the free/reduced-lunch share rose to 29.66%.
