Summary

Caldwell High School is a public high school located in Caldwell, Ohio, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 231 students. The school is part of the Caldwell Exempted Village School District, which is ranked 544 out of 828 districts in Ohio and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Caldwell High School faces several challenges that need to be addressed to improve student outcomes. The school's low test scores, with only 16.3% proficient or better in Geometry and 7.8% in Algebra I, suggest a need for targeted interventions and support. Additionally, the school has a high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 18.0% to 33.6% in recent years, which is significantly higher than the state average and indicates a potential issue with student engagement. When compared to nearby high schools, such as Morgan High School, Waterford High School, and Fort Frye High School, Caldwell High School generally performs worse on key metrics like test scores, graduation rates, and chronic absenteeism.

Caldwell High School's performance on various student subgroups is also concerning, with the school ranking particularly low for male students, white students, and students with special needs, indicating significant achievement gaps that need to be addressed. Despite the school's higher-than-average spending per student at $11,642 in the 2018-2019 school year, this does not seem to be translating into improved academic outcomes. Addressing the root causes of the school's underperformance, such as student engagement, instructional quality, and resource allocation, should be a priority for the Caldwell Exempted Village School District.

Open Quote During my time, I had a tremendous amount of disgust for the math program. The middle school math teacher taught me nothing during my two years in pre algebra. I spent most of my first semester of algebra I learning pre algebra things I would need to be able to do algebra I. That did not help me pass state tests, and I struggled in geometry because I didn't know the building blocks. The English department is another story. I got a lot out of my freshman English class, but not so much sophomore. Same with science. I didn't learn anything in physical science, but I had an outstanding biology teacher. My lack of knowledge in the physical science realm has set me at a disadvantage in the science classes I'm taking now. The history teachers were very good, and I can't complain. The choir is an outstanding program. For a school that size, it is top notch and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The instrumental program was good, but a lack of authority, focus, and nurturing talent caused me to fall behind when furthering my music education. Above all, I cherish the people in the school that I met, not the academics. Close Quote
