Willoughby Middle School is a public school serving grades 6–8 with 509 students in Willoughby, Ohio, part of the Willoughby-Eastlake City district. In 2025–26 it ranked 628 of 1,046 Ohio middle schools — the 40th percentile, 2 stars — below the state median; the district ranks 416 of 773. Its history shows a long decline and a modest recovery: from 291 of 1,050 (72nd percentile, 4 stars) in 2015–16 to 692 of 1,017 (32nd percentile) in 2021–22, then back up to today's 40th percentile. It has been a 2-star school since 2018–19. It trails nearby School of Innovation (98th, 5 stars), Kirtland Middle School (95th, 5 stars), Memorial Middle School (87th, 4 stars), Mayfield Middle School (79th, 4 stars), and Shore Middle School (74th, 4 stars), and is close to Eastlake Middle School (52nd, 3 stars) and Willowick Middle School (41st, 2 stars), though it outranks Memorial Junior High School, Euclid Middle School, and Richmond Heights Middle School.

Chronic absenteeism is a major differentiator at 30.6%, above the district's 24.2%, Eastlake's 25.0%, and Willowick's 28.4%, and far above School of Innovation (9.4%) and Kirtland (7.1%). Low-income students ranked 51st percentile (3 stars), up sharply, and special education students improved to 45th percentile; multi-racial students were at 30th percentile (1 star) and gifted students fell to 37th from 68th. Willoughby has the smallest classes among nearby schools (11.3 students per teacher) and a lower free/reduced lunch rate (52.46%) than Eastlake (64.55%) or Willowick (63.37%), yet those advantages have not produced higher achievement or lower absenteeism.
