Summary

Whitehall Yearling High School is a public high school in Whitehall, Ohio, serving about 993 students in grades 9–12 as part of the Whitehall City district. It ranks 608th of 795 Ohio high schools in 2025–2026 — the 24th percentile, 1 star — placing it in the bottom quarter statewide. Results have improved over the long term, from the 14th–15th percentile in 2015–2017 to 24th–29th since 2020–2021, though the latest figure is slightly below 2023–2024. Graduation is a bright spot at 89.2% in 2025–2026, up from 81.9% in 2021–2022. Chronic absenteeism remains a serious concern at 53.6% — more than half the student body — far above the district's 34.2%.

Test results are uneven. American Government is a genuine strength at 74.1% proficient, above the state's 71.6% and up from 54.2% in 2022–2023. Algebra I has also improved, from 27.4% to 50.9%, though it stays below the state's 61.6%. Geometry is a severe weakness at 17.6% proficient versus 43.3% statewide; American History, Biology, and English II also trail state rates. Compared with nearby schools, Whitehall Yearling outperforms Walnut Ridge High School, Eastmoor Academy, Columbus Africentric Early College High School, and Columbus Online Academy in most subjects, but trails Bexley High School by a wide margin and Arts & College Preparatory Academy in most subjects (Algebra I is the exception, 50.9% vs 45.4%).

The student-teacher ratio is 18.7 (2024–2025), similar to Bexley High School's 17.4, and per-student spending was $8,300 in 2018–2019 — less than several nearby Columbus City Schools District high schools. Results for some student groups are stronger than the overall rating suggests: English learners and gifted students rank near the state median in recent years, while low-income students (28th percentile) and special education students (35th percentile) trail. Overall, this is a bottom-quartile school with improving graduation rates and a few subject-level strengths, but real challenges in chronic absenteeism and Geometry. It generally serves families better than the lowest-performing nearby alternatives, yet remains far behind Bexley High School and, in most subjects, Arts & College Preparatory Academy.
