Summary

Roosevelt Middle School is a 7th–8th grade school serving 413 students in Springfield, Ohio, part of the Springfield City School District, which ranks 704th of 773 Ohio districts (9th percentile). Roosevelt itself ranks 854th of 1,046 Ohio middle schools in 2025–2026 (18th percentile, one star). That makes it the strongest of Springfield's three middle schools — Hayward Middle School sits at the 10th percentile and Schaefer Middle School at the 13th — but it trails every nearby non-district school, including Mechanicsburg Middle School (73rd percentile, 4 stars), Bethel Middle School and Graham Middle School (64th, 3 stars), and Tecumseh Middle School (49th, 2 stars). The school has also slid over time, from about the 37th percentile in 2017–2018 to roughly the 18th today.

Academically, English language arts is the clearest bright spot: 36.6% of 7th graders and 38.3% of 8th graders tested proficient, beating both same-district peers and the district average, though still about 20–24 points below the state. The most severe weakness is 8th-grade math, where only 11.6% were proficient — slightly below the district and less than one-fourth of the state's 52%. That is a multi-year pattern, not a one-year dip; 7th-grade math is also low at 25.0%. Algebra I stands out at 100% proficient versus 31.6% district and 61.6% state, but this likely reflects a small, selected group of advanced students, since many nearby schools also score 85%–100%.

Chronic absenteeism has improved from 48.5% in 2021–2022 to 35.2% in 2025–2026 — better than Hayward (46.3%) and Schaefer (44.6%) and close to the district average, but far above nearby districts such as Mechanicsburg (14.0%) and Bethel (17.6%). Classes are relatively small at 13.3 students per teacher, though per-student spending was comparatively low. The school ranks in the bottom quartile for most student groups it serves, including students with disabilities, English learners, and gifted students. Overall, Roosevelt is a low-performing school statewide but a comparatively stronger choice within Springfield City.
