Chronic absenteeism of 29.5%, however, is above the district's 24.1% and higher than Avon, North Ridgeville, Avon Lake and Amherst. Brookside serves a higher-poverty population (55.66% free/reduced lunch) than those neighbors, yet spends more per student ($12,116) and has a lower student–teacher ratio (13.6). Low-income, special education and gifted students all rank in the top third or better statewide.
