Marion L Steele High School is the single comprehensive high school in the Amherst Exempted Village district, serving 1,014 students in grades 9–12 in Amherst, Ohio — a suburban community about 30 miles west of Cleveland, with ten comparable high schools within roughly eight miles. The district ranks in the 75th percentile of Ohio districts, while the high school itself ranked 252 of 795 high schools in 2025–2026, the 68th percentile and three stars, its lowest standing since 2017–2018.

Steele's headline results remain strong. Its 98.9% graduation rate is the highest among nearby schools, and its students scored above the state average in all six End-of-Course subjects, including English II (79.7% vs. 62.7% statewide) and Biology (81.0% vs. 67.0%) — the best results in its comparison group. By contrast, Lorain High School posted 29.7% in English II and 37.9% in Biology, and Vermilion High School trailed Steele in both subjects.
