Summary

Southview Middle School is a public middle school in Lorain, Ohio, serving 418 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Lorain City School District, which is ranked 740 out of 828 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Southview Middle School has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Ohio middle schools over the past several years, with a ranking between 846-964 out of over 1,000 middle schools in the state.

Southview Middle School faces significant challenges, including extremely high chronic absenteeism rates ranging from 59.0% to 63.6% over the past few years, which are much higher than the state and district averages. The school's students also perform poorly on Ohio state assessments, with proficiency rates that are 10-20 percentage points below the Lorain City district averages and 30-50 percentage points below the state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. The school struggles to support the academic achievement of its diverse student population, ranking in the bottom 10-20% of Ohio middle schools for various student subgroups.

While the other middle schools in the Lorain City district, such as General Johnnie Wilson Middle School and Longfellow Middle School, perform slightly better than Southview Middle School on state assessments and have lower chronic absenteeism rates, they still lag significantly behind the state averages and are also ranked in the bottom quarter of Ohio middle schools. The consistently low performance of the district's middle schools suggests that the Lorain City School District as a whole is facing significant challenges in providing a high-quality education to its students.
