Berwick Alternative K-8 School is a PK–8 school serving 691 students at 2655 Scottwood Rd in Columbus, part of the Columbus City Schools District, and it is the largest school in its nearby comparison group. Its statewide results have been remarkably steady: it has ranked between the 21st and 30th percentile in each of the last ten reported years and has never earned more than 2 of 5 stars, ending 2025-26 at the 23rd percentile.

Compared with its own district, Berwick does well: it is above the district average on 10 of 15 reported 2025-26 tests, including the strongest grade 3–5 reading and math proficiency of any nearby district school. Its standout results are grades 4 and 5 (ELA 5 at 64.8, versus the district's 50.4 and a state 70.4), grade 6 math and grade 8 math. Algebra I is a dramatic outlier — 77.8% proficient against a district 26.0% and state 61.6% — though this is a small, self-selected group and it was 35.7% the year before. Against the state, however, Berwick is below average on nearly every test, with grade 3 math (16.1) and grade 7 math (13.8) its weakest floors.

Chronic absenteeism is 49.5%, better than the district's 53.8% and better than most nearby Columbus City schools such as Fairmoor Elementary School (60.7%) and Scottwood Elementary School (49.6%), but it has risen about 10 points in four years and the district is closing the gap quickly. Two trends stand out. Eighth grade is sliding: science fell from 68.4% to 36.7% over four years and ELA from 43.6% to 30.4%. And a short drive away, Montrose Elementary School and Cassingham Elementary School in Bexley City post 82–95% proficiency with roughly 4% absenteeism, even though Berwick's spending and class sizes are similar. Berwick remains a stable school that outperforms its district and immediate neighbors while sitting well below the state average.
