Denison is a PK–8 elementary school at 3799 W 33rd St in Cleveland's Clark–Fulton/West Side area, serving 255 students as part of Cleveland Municipal, a district that ranks 11th percentile statewide. Denison itself does better than that backdrop: in 2025–26 it placed 1060th of 1,560 Ohio elementary/middle schools (32nd percentile, 2 stars), and it has climbed steadily from the 9th percentile in 2020–21 to its best standing since 2018–19.
The headline number hides a split building. Grades 3–5 beat the district by wide margins and sometimes beat the state — 3rd grade math at 66.7 was the highest of any district peer in the comparison set, and 4th grade ELA at 70.4 topped every same-district peer and the state's 61.8. Grades 6–8 run the other way: every 2025–26 middle-grade result sat at or below the district level, with 8th grade science at 0 and 8th grade ELA at 13.6. Among nearby same-district schools, only Buhrer ranks higher, and Denison sits well clear of Orchard and Luis Munoz Marin, which perform at the 1st–5th percentile. Two things hold Denison back. Chronic absenteeism is 57.7%, above the district's 54.3% and second-highest locally, and it rose this year while the district's fell; by contrast, Buhrer — 1.25 miles away, same district, same PK–8 structure — has the lowest absenteeism (27.1%) and the strongest results. Class sizes are also growing, from 16.2 to 19.6 students per teacher in two years, even though Denison spent $13,127 per student (2018–19), the most in the comparison group. 8th grade results swing wildly year to year because cohorts are tiny, so treat middle-grade numbers as unstable estimates. Menlo Park Academy, 81st percentile with 4 stars, shows what is possible nearby, but its selective intake isn't a like-for-like comparison.
