Wildwood Environmental Academy

Wildwood Environmental Academy is an alternative K–12 charter school in Maumee, Ohio, serving 348 students in grades K–12 as its own school district. It is mid-sized among the nearby schools parents often compare it to: larger than small specialized programs like Autism Model School (96 students) and The Autism Academy Of Learning (53), similar in size to Explorers Academy of Science and Technology (340) and Reynolds Elementary School (336), and far smaller than Ohio Virtual Academy (15,339).

Academically, Wildwood looks like two different schools. Its high school End-of-Course results in 2025–26 were at or above the state average in Algebra I (70.0 vs. 61.6), Geometry (46.7 vs. 43.3), Biology (72.2 vs. 67.0), English II (68.4 vs. 62.7), and American Government (76.5 vs. 71.6), and stronger than most nearby alternative schools — Horizon’s Algebra I was 53.6, Ohio Virtual’s 27.6, and Summit’s 8.3. Algebra I itself has improved dramatically, from 6.3% proficiency in 2022–23 to 70.0% in 2025–26. Earlier grades are a different story: every tested math grade from 3rd through 8th fell below the state average, with 4th grade math at 18.2% vs. Ohio’s 67.3%. Sixth grade ELA has been persistently weak, and 8th grade science dropped from 71.4% in 2023–24 to 31.4% in 2025–26, well below the state’s 61.2%. Nearby Swanton Elementary School and Northwest Ohio Classical Academy score higher in elementary and middle grades.

Attendance remains a challenge. Chronic absenteeism was 33.5% in 2025–26 — better than Reynolds (56.7%) and Summit Academy - Toledo (53.6%), but far above Swanton Elementary (9.2%) and Northwest Ohio Classical Academy (15.3%). The graduation rate rebounded to 87.5% in 2023–24 after 69.2% in 2022–23. The student–teacher ratio is 14.2, and 2018–19 per-pupil spending was $6,707 — lower than several neighbors, though that figure is dated.
