ZIP code 89511 in the Reno area is home to 11 schools serving 5,916 students: six elementary schools (including the K–8 Doral Academy of Northern Nevada), one middle school, three high schools, and one alternative school. Most are in Washoe County (ranked 4th of 12 districts, 4 stars), while Doral and Nevada State High School II Meadowwood are part of State Sponsored Charter Schools (ranked 2nd of 12, 5 stars). Enrollment varies enormously, from 12 students at Nevada State High School II Meadowwood to 1,345 at Galena High School; the median school enrolls 396 students.

This is a generally strong area. The top elementary is Ted Hunsberger Elementary, ranked 3rd of 376 (99th percentile, 5 stars) with the ZIP's highest math (79.0%) and reading (82.3%) proficiency and its lowest chronic absenteeism (6.5%). Doral Academy (14th of 376, 5 stars) and Elizabeth Lenz Elementary (22nd of 376, 5 stars) also perform very well, though Lenz's science proficiency is lower at 29.0%. Pleasant Valley Elementary (24th of 376, 5 stars) shows strong results at a higher free/reduced-lunch rate of 24.57%. Among older students, Marce Herz Middle School ranks 18th of 148, while Coral Academy High School (93.7% graduation rate) and Galena High (93.5%) both graduate students well.

Two schools stand out for caution. Huffaker Elementary has slipped from 114th to 212th of 376 (2 stars), with math at 32.7%, even though its spending and student-teacher ratio are nearly identical to Lenz's. Galena High also has notably high chronic absenteeism at 35.2%, far above Coral Academy High's 10.5%. Marvin Picollo Elementary is an alternative PK–12 school with 100% free/reduced lunch, 48.4% absenteeism, and no test data, and Nevada State High School II Meadowwood enrolls only 12 students — both should be viewed separately from comprehensive schools. Science results are also uneven, and science figures for Coral Academy Elementary-South and Huffaker are suppressed in this data.
