Capital High is a public comprehensive high school serving grades 9–12 on Paseo Del Sol in Santa Fe, with about 1,388 students — one of the two largest campuses in Santa Fe Public Schools, a district rated 2 stars and ranked 56th of 87 districts statewide. Nearly every student comes from an economically disadvantaged household: free/reduced lunch was 100% in 2024–25.

Two facts stand out for families. First, the school has been sliding in statewide standings for four straight years — from the 38th percentile in 2021–22 down to the 24th, 16th, 11th, and now the 3rd percentile in 2025–26, the first 0-star rating in its recorded history. Second, staffing has improved over that same window: the student-teacher ratio went from 17.2:1 to 15.5:1, now more favorable than Santa Fe High's 17.8:1, without a matching change in results.

The school's clearest strength is completion. Its 83.4% graduation rate in 2024–25 beats the district (80.2%) and the state (80.6%), and tops Santa Fe High (76.8%), Early College Opportunities (80.2%), Tierra Encantada Charter School (79.2%), and Desert Sage Academy (45.5%). Proficiency tells the opposite story: 11th graders posted 17.42% in ELA, 2.45% in math, and 16.03% in science, against statewide rates of 36.78%, 12.72%, and 34.27%. Math is the deepest weakness — far below any benchmark, and the SAT School Day math result is under 5%. Notably, Santa Fe High sits 4.4 miles away in the same district with the same 9–12 structure, comparable size, and the same 100% free/reduced lunch, yet reports about 40% ELA, 15% math, and 38% science.
