Summary

Pembroke Academy is a public high school in Pembroke, New Hampshire, serving 744 students in grades 9–12 within the Pembroke School District. The school is a mid-sized option for families in the Pembroke area, with a student-teacher ratio of about 13:1. Its current academic profile is mixed: reading performance is near the state average, but mathematics and science results are considerably weaker. The school’s latest statewide ranking—74th out of 89 high schools, in the 17th percentile—also represents a substantial decline from its much stronger 2016–2017 ranking.

The clearest concern is academic performance in math and science. In 2025–2026, 15% of students were proficient in math and 20% in science, compared with 44% and 38% statewide. Reading was a relative strength at 53%, close to New Hampshire’s 55%, although it fell from 66% the previous year. The latest graduation rate, 82.5%, was also a significant decline from 94.9% in 2023–2024 and below the state’s 87.0%. At the same time, the dropout rate improved steadily to 1.6%, below the state average. The special education subgroup’s ranking at the 0th percentile is another important area for families to ask about, particularly regarding academic support and on-time graduation.

For comparison, similarly sized Merrimack Valley High School enrolls the same number of students and has a similar economic profile, yet ranks higher, reports a 91.2% graduation rate, and performs somewhat better in all three tested subjects. Goffstown High School and Bow High School are substantially stronger academically, while Manchester Central High School and Manchester West High School rank lower overall. Pembroke’s improving dropout rate, reasonable staffing level, and historically stronger performance provide a foundation for improvement, especially through focused math, science, student-support, and graduation initiatives.
