Summary

Chesterfield Central School is a public school serving 253 students in grades K–8 in the Chesterfield, New Hampshire, community and is the primary school in the Chesterfield School District. Located in a primarily rural southwestern New Hampshire area, it offers a broader K–8 program than many nearby elementary schools, making local comparisons useful but not perfectly equivalent.

Current academic results are a clear strength: 53% of students are proficient in math, 62% in reading, and 47% in science, compared with 44%, 55%, and 38% statewide. Chesterfield ranks among the stronger schools in its area, performing well ahead of Winchester School, Hinsdale Elementary School, Cutler Elementary School, and Gathering Waters Charter School (E). Its reading performance is comparable to Fuller Elementary School, while its science results are competitive with several nearby schools. The clearest local high performer is Westmoreland School, which leads Chesterfield by 10 points in math, 9 in reading, and 17 in science.

The school improved substantially in 2025–2026, with math rising 9 points and reading 8 points, although science was nearly flat. Results are strongest in the middle grades: grade 7 reached 88% proficiency in both math and reading, and grade 8 also performed well. The main concern is grade 5 math, at just 19% proficiency, with grade 4 math and reading also needing attention. Chesterfield’s statewide ranking has improved from the prior year but remains below its 2017–2019 levels. Overall, the school appears to offer solid academics and a particularly effective middle-school program, with the greatest opportunity coming from strengthening earlier-grade math, reading, and science.

Open Quote Leadership is awful. Teachers and facility lack skills and are not results oriented. Problem students get all of the attention. Close Quote
