On a positive note, chronic absenteeism has improved dramatically, dropping from 51.5% in 2020-2021 to 28.8% in 2024-2025 — better than the district's 36.5% rate, though still above the state's 24.2%. One concern is that South End's student-teacher ratio rose to 20.9 in 2024-2025, well above most nearby elementary schools, which may limit individual attention. The school has also shown pockets of strong subgroup performance, and the recent gains across several student groups in 2025-2026 offer some hope.
