Summary

Randleman High School is a traditional 9-12 public high school in Randleman, NC, enrolling about 870 students as part of the Randolph County School System. The school carries a 1-star rating and ranks 504th of 662 North Carolina high schools — lower-middle in a county where Wheatmore High School (63rd percentile), Trinity High School (46th), and Providence Grove High School (31st) rank higher, while Uwharrie Ridge Six-Twelve (16th) and Eastern Randolph High School (8th) rank below. On End-of-Course tests, Randleman trails its district and the state in every subject. Math I shows the widest gap: 25.1% proficient, versus 34.2% for the district and 42.1% statewide.

But there are real strengths here. Randleman's graduation rate has climbed to 92.0% — above the state average of 88.8% and near the district's 92.3%. Chronic absenteeism has fallen sharply, from 36.3% in 2020-21 to 22.7%, better than the statewide rate of 24.2% and well ahead of neighbors such as Eastern Randolph (47.2%), Southern Guilford High (30.5%), Asheboro High (29.1%), and Trinity High (28.9%). The school is also making meaningful progress with student groups that are often overlooked: English Learner students jumped from the 5th to the 30th percentile statewide, gifted students climbed to the 31st, and Hispanic students rank 38th among their peers across North Carolina.

Where Randleman struggles most is foundational math. Math III proficiency has improved from 30.9% to 53.4% since 2023-24, and Math I climbed from a troubling 9.1% to 25.1% — yet it still sits about 17 points below the state average. Schools with similar student bodies do far better: at Trinity High School, where the low-income share (55.9%) is nearly identical to Randleman's 59.5%, 67.4% of students are proficient in Math I. Randleman also spends less per pupil ($8,760) than Providence Grove High School ($9,290). The bottom line: Randleman does an admirable job keeping students in school and graduating them on time, but turning that into stronger academic mastery — especially in math — remains a work in progress.
