Summary

Trinity High School is a traditional public high school in Trinity, North Carolina, serving roughly 675 students in grades 9–12 as part of the Randolph County School System. On state rankings, Trinity sits near the middle of North Carolina high schools at the 46th percentile, earning a 2-star rating for 2025–2026. That is a meaningful improvement over recent years, climbing from the 28th percentile in 2021–2022 to its current position, though it remains below the school’s own 2016–2017 peak at the 64th percentile. About 56% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Trinity’s standout strength is freshman math. Its Math I proficiency rate of 67.4% is far above both the district’s 34.2% and the state’s 42.1%, and it beats nearby comprehensive high schools like Wheatmore High School and East Davidson High. English II has also improved sharply, jumping from 47.3% to 60.7% over the past few years. The picture is uneven, though: Biology proficiency lags the state, and Math III, while much improved from 24.1% to 60.8%, still trails North Carolina’s 68.9% average and Wheatmore’s impressive 82.8%. Trinity’s graduation rate of 88.8% matches the state average but falls short of both the Randolph County district rate of 92.3% and Wheatmore’s 92.7%.

The most important concern for parents is attendance. More than one out of four Trinity students — 28.9% in 2024–2025 — was chronically absent, meaning they missed a substantial number of school days. That is considerably higher than the district rate of 22.5%, the state rate of 24.2%, and especially Wheatmore’s 17.5% and East Davidson’s 7.4%. Given Trinity’s steady academic gains and genuine bright spots in early math and English, improving attendance may be the single biggest opportunity for the school to continue moving upward.
