Summary

Lillington-Shawtown Elementary is a public elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Lillington, North Carolina, with 678 students enrolled. The school is part of the Harnett County Schools district, which is ranked 184 out of 242 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lillington-Shawtown Elementary has consistently struggled with low academic achievement, ranking in the bottom quarter of North Carolina elementary schools for the past decade. The school's proficiency rates in math, reading, and science are significantly lower than the Harnett County and North Carolina state averages across all grade levels. Compared to nearby schools in the district, Lillington-Shawtown Elementary generally performs worse, with the exception of LaFayette Elementary, which outperforms it across most metrics.

The school's extremely high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with over 99% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, suggests that poverty and related factors may be significant barriers to student learning and achievement. However, the relatively strong performance of the school's Hispanic and special education student populations indicates that Lillington-Shawtown Elementary may have some effective practices or programs in place for these subgroups, which could provide valuable insights for improving the school's overall academic performance.
