Harnett Central Middle is a large public school in Angier, NC, serving roughly 1,059 students in grades 6–8 as part of Harnett County Schools. Perhaps the most instructive comparison involves Benson Middle and McGee's Crossroads Middle in Johnston County, which serve student populations with nearly identical poverty rates yet post substantially stronger test scores and lower absenteeism. That gap demonstrates that high poverty does not make low performance inevitable, and it suggests Harnett Central has clear opportunities to improve, especially around attendance, math instruction, and support for student subgroups currently performing in the bottom decile statewide.
