Elkin High is a mid-sized public high school in Elkin, North Carolina, serving 401 students in grades 9–12 as part of the Elkin City Schools district. The district ranks a strong 45th out of 246 districts statewide, and Elkin High itself consistently lands in the top quartile of North Carolina high schools—currently ranked 173rd of 662 schools with a four-star rating. About 51% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, a lower poverty rate than nearly all neighboring county high schools, and the school enjoys a favorable 14.5:1 student-teacher ratio with per-pupil spending around $12,105.

What truly distinguishes Elkin from the traditional high schools around it is math. In the most recent testing year, 84.6% of students scored proficient on Math I and 94.6% scored proficient on Math III—more than double the state average in Math I, and a rate approaching that of regional early-college programs. English II results are solid at 74.7% proficient, while Biology (59.6%) hovers right at the state average.
