That gap suggests higher achievement is possible even in a high-poverty context. There are also bright spots hidden in the data: Hispanic students at Stocks performed around the 66th percentile statewide compared with other schools serving Hispanic students, special education students ranked in the 37th–43rd percentiles in recent years, and girls consistently outperformed boys. Stocks isn't the lowest-performing school in its area — schools like Baskerville Elementary and D S Johnson Elementary rank even lower — but the gap with Carver is worth understanding.
