Bonlee School

Bonlee School is a small, rural K–8 school in Bear Creek, NC, serving 290 students and operating within Chatham County Schools, a district ranked in the 75th percentile statewide. The school's poverty rate is very high, with nearly 99% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Compared to nearby schools, Bonlee occupies a middle-lower position. It outperforms Siler City Elementary (29th percentile), but several demographically similar rural K–8 schools within roughly 10 miles achieve far stronger results. Bennett School ranks in the 85th percentile, Silk Hope School in the 79th, J S Waters School in the 76th, and Highfalls Elementary in the 72nd. These neighboring schools serve similarly high-poverty student populations, which suggests that Bonlee's challenges are not simply a product of economic disadvantage and that meaningful improvement is well within reach.
