Ansonville Elementary is a small, rural school in Ansonville, NC, serving 158 students in grades K through 6, and it has recently experienced a significant academic downturn after several years of strong performance.

This school, part of the Anson County Schools district, serves a student body where nearly all families are economically disadvantaged. The most notable trend is a steep decline in its statewide ranking, falling from the 88th percentile in 2021–2022 to the 34th percentile in 2025–2026. That said, the performance is quite uneven across grade levels. While 4th grade math (72.7% proficient) and reading (66.7%) are well above state averages, 5th grade results are a major concern, with reading proficiency at just 25%. Chronic absenteeism, at 29.4%, is a bright spot compared to other local schools like Wadesboro Primary (53.9%) and Lilesville Elementary (40.8%), though it remains higher than the state average.

Within its district, Ansonville is a relative bright spot, ranking second only to Peachland-Polkton Elementary, and it outperforms nearby Morven Elementary. Perhaps most importantly, Ansonville has proven it can succeed despite high poverty, with several grades and subjects scoring at or above state levels as recently as 2023–2024. This recent dip, while concerning, may be amplified by very small class sizes, where a difference of a few students can cause dramatic swings. The school has shown it is not limited by its demographics and has the capacity to reverse its current trend.
