Charlotte Secondary is a very small public school in southeastern Charlotte, NC, serving 157 students in grades 6 through 12, and it operates as its own single-school district — the Charlotte Secondary School district — rather than part of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. That district ranks 229th of 246 districts statewide, at the 7th percentile. Despite sitting close to much stronger public high schools, the school itself ranks 521st of 662 North Carolina schools (21st percentile, 1-star rating). For comparison, Providence High School, about three miles away, is at the 88th percentile, and East Mecklenburg High School, just 1.7 miles away, is at the 48th percentile.

Chronic absenteeism affects 39.4% of students, making it hard for many to keep up. Given the school's small enrollment, year-to-year statistics can swing widely and should be read cautiously. Still, families in this part of Charlotte have options: Butler High School, Independence High School, Myers Park High School, and the early college program at Central Piedmont Early College all show notably better results on state measures.

this school is the best. i would recommend it to any one. i have been going here ever since i started middle school and i learn a lot and i have lots of friends. if you don't like big schools and you like small classrooms and nice people then this is the place for you.

This school is awesome! I started when I was in 6th grade and I now I'm enamored by this place! My teachers are so supportive, and I love that we are allowed to move at higher paced rates in the classes in which we excel! I do have to do a lot of work, but it is worth it. When you compare my research skills and writing ability to those of my older sister (who followed traditional CMS schools), it's unfathomable! Close Quote
