Summary

Pisgah Elementary is a PK–6 public school in Brandon, Mississippi, serving 556 students in the Rankin County School District, which ranks 25th out of 134 districts in the state. The school has earned 4 stars in seven of the last ten years and a 5-star rating in 2022–2023, climbing steadily from the 71st percentile a decade ago to its current 88th–91st percentile range. Its best state ranking came in 2022–2023 when it placed 35th, and it currently sits at 47th in Mississippi. With about 44% of students receiving free/reduced lunch, Pisgah serves a mixed-income population while outperforming the state average on nearly every subject and grade.

Academically, Pisgah's biggest strengths are English Language Arts and science. ELA proficiency is above district and state averages in every grade, with 4th grade (79.0%) leading the way at 10 points above the district average. Fifth-grade science is remarkably consistent, hovering around 85% proficiency — roughly 15–20 points above the state average and within a few points of the area's top-tier schools, Northshore Elementary (ranked 8th) and Oakdale Elementary (ranked 16th). While Northshore and Oakdale generally outpace Pisgah in math, Pisgah actually beats Northshore in 5th grade ELA (74.1% vs. 73.7%) and holds its own in several other subjects.

The main area for improvement is 6th grade math, where 58.8% of students scored proficient in 2025–2026 — about 9 points behind the district average. Fifth-grade math, however, has rebounded sharply from a low of 46.7% in 2023–2024 to 72.9% this year. Pisgah also stands out for attendance: a 12.5% chronic absenteeism rate is well below the state's 23.9%. The contrast with nearby Pelahatchie Elementary — also a PK–6 school — is striking: Pisgah's math scores run 10–25 points higher across all grades, and Pelahatchie has nearly double the absenteeism. For Brandon-area families, Pisgah offers a well-rounded, consistently strong option within the Rankin County School District.
