Long Creek Elementary School is a rural PK–6 campus in Sallis, Mississippi, serving 199 students as part of Attala County Schools, a 4-star district ranked in the top quarter of Mississippi schools. The school itself tells a different story: it currently holds a 2-star rating and ranks in the 37th percentile statewide, one of the wider district-versus-school gaps in the area. Almost all students (98.49%) come from economically disadvantaged families, yet the school manages small class sizes with a 10.5 student–teacher ratio and keeps chronic absenteeism at 22.6%—just below the state average and well below its own district's 31.4%.

Academically, Long Creek is a school of stark contrasts. Its most impressive result is 6th grade math—the school is the only nearby elementary campus serving 6th graders—where 80% of students scored proficient in 2025–2026, far above the state's 52.7% and part of a consistent four-year stretch of strong performance. Notably, Durant Elementary School, despite sitting in a much weaker district, beats Long Creek in several subjects—including 5th grade science, where it posts 76.7% versus Long Creek's 47.8%—a reminder that district rankings don't always predict a school's results. With just 199 students across grades PK–6, individual grade cohorts are small, and scores can swing dramatically from year to year as strong or weak classes move through the school.
