Summary

Hopewell Elementary is a public elementary school located in Kansas City, Missouri, serving 481 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Park Hill School District, which is ranked 84 out of 367 districts in Missouri and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Hopewell Elementary has shown mixed academic performance, with its statewide ranking ranging from 245 to 343 out of around 900 Missouri elementary schools. While the school generally performs better than the state average on the MAP (Missouri Assessment Program) tests, it lags behind the Park Hill district average in most subject areas and grade levels. However, Hopewell's performance is particularly strong in English Language Arts, where its 5th-grade proficiency rate was 59% in 2024-2025, compared to the Park Hill average of 51.7% and the state average of 44.3%.

Hopewell has a diverse student population, with a significant proportion of African American and low socioeconomic status students. The school's performance on the MAP tests for these subgroups is generally on par with or better than the state averages, indicating that Hopewell is effectively serving its diverse student population. However, the school has experienced relatively high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 15.4% to 23.2% over the past few years, which is higher than the state average. This could be an area of concern and may impact the school's academic performance. Overall, Hopewell Elementary is a solid elementary school that serves its diverse student population well, with particular strengths in English Language Arts, but could benefit from addressing its chronic absenteeism rates and improving its academic performance in other subject areas.

Open Quote Positives: Hopewell is a part of Park Hill, which is a highly rated and revered district.

Negatives: My child has recently informed me that children are not allowed to run outside during recess. Unless someone is able to provide peer reviewed medical studies proving how children not being allowed to physically exert themselves is "healthy," mentally and physically, this sounds like we have a big problem. One that could easily be disproved by a Pediatrician's expertise and media exposure. Close Quote
