McCluer High consistently ranks in the bottom 10-20% of Missouri high schools, with proficiency rates on state assessments significantly below the state and district averages across all subject areas. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 18.4% of McCluer High students were proficient or better in Algebra I, compared to 29.5% in the district and 45.4% statewide. The school's four-year graduation rate has been around 92-93% in recent years, slightly below the state average, and its dropout rate has ranged from 2.7% to 6.4%, higher than the state and district averages. Additionally, McCluer High has experienced high rates of chronic absenteeism, ranging from 38.7% to 69.3% in recent years, significantly higher than the state and district averages.

While McCluer High receives higher per-student funding than the state average, it still underperforms nearby schools in the Ferguson-Florissant R-II district, such as McCluer North High and STEAM Academy at MSB High School, which outperform McCluer High in Algebra I, Biology I, and English II proficiency rates by a significant margin. The school's high student-teacher ratio and chronic absenteeism rates may be contributing to the poor academic outcomes, and addressing these issues could be a priority for the school and district.

Open Quote Ouch! this used to be a very good school in the 60s. Maybe you need to dig up some of those old teachers to see how its done. Close Quote

Open Quote As a former student of McCluer High School (class of 2006), I can attest to the dedication of the teachers and staff there. I always felt cared about, and if I needed help, I could always find someone to guide me. You can really tell that the faculty put their hearts into teaching- for the most part, they are passionate and upbeat! McCluer was a great part of my life- after I graduated, I went to school to find that my level of education was on par with, if not surpassing, my peers who had gone to private schools. Students are encouraged to take advantage of their education and of the many opportunities presented to them. I've heard people speak badly about McCluer, and I think it gets a bad reputation for being in "North County." However, I bet that most of those people have not been to North County and certainly not to McCluer.
Okay, to end the rambling, McCluer is a great school with caring teachers and staff, and I am proud to be a Comet for life! Close Quote
