ZIP code 55331 is home to four schools — three of them K–8 schools plus one small grade-12 program — all part of the Minnetonka Public School District, which ranks #9 of 458 Minnesota districts. Together they enroll about 2,919 students, and every school with reported 2025–2026 test data beats the Minnesota average in math, reading, and science.

Excelsior Elementary is the academic standout. It ranks #22 of 869 elementary schools (97th percentile, 5 stars) and posts the ZIP's highest math (80.4%) and science (57.1%) proficiency, with science more than double the state's 25.5%. Minnetonka West Middle is elite by rank — #7 of 546 middle schools, 99th percentile, 5 stars — with math (73.0%) and reading (74.3%) at or above district levels. Its one soft spot is science at 37.6%, 9.3 points below the district. Minnewashta Elementary is strong but comparatively softer: 5 stars and #53 of 869, yet its rank slipped from #37 three years ago, and its math (69.4%) and science (43.6%) trail the district. Its 5th-grade reading score, 83.1%, is the best elementary reading result in the ZIP.

Shorewood Education Center is a different profile entirely: a 35-student, grade-12-only school with no rank or test-score data, a 45.71% free/reduced lunch rate, and the lowest student/teacher ratio in the ZIP at 6.8, so it isn't comparable to the K–8 schools. Among the three larger schools, free/reduced lunch ranges from 6.82% to 10.56% and student/teacher ratios from 12.7 to 16.0. Two storylines to watch: science at West Middle, and math and rank stability at Minnewashta.
