Summary

L'Etoile du Nord French Immersion is a public magnet elementary school in Saint Paul Public Schools that serves 279 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. This high-performing school consistently outperforms the district and state in both math and reading proficiency, with 57.69% of students proficient or better in MCA-III Math and 58.49% proficient or better in MCA-III Reading, compared to 26.55% and 34.82% for the district, respectively.

L'Etoile du Nord's strong academic performance extends across different student subgroups, with the school ranking in the top 25% of Minnesota elementary schools for African American, Hispanic, White, and multi-racial students. The school also maintains a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 11.7 to 15.4 over the past few years. However, the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch has increased from 27.75% in 2021-2022 to 43.01% in 2023-2024, indicating a growing population of economically disadvantaged students.

Compared to nearby schools, such as Nokomis Montessori North Campus, Eastern Heights Elementary, and Hazel Park Preparatory Academy, L'Etoile du Nord stands out with its consistently high academic performance and lower percentage of economically disadvantaged students. While the school has maintained a strong track record, it may face challenges in supporting its growing population of students in need and sustaining its exceptional performance in the future.

Open Quote My child goes to this school (lower campus). I always have the hardest time getting a refund for anything that i have been double charged on. Her kindergarten teacher was always overwhelmed and would leave for long periods of the time because she couldnt handle her students. I volunteered to help in class as well and some students have been neglected. Even my own child came home with wet pants and she went through half the school day with wet pants until she came home. PLEASE PASS on this school! The school teachers have favoritism as well. Close Quote

Open Quote This elementary school is good at incorporating the French language into the curriculum. The city of St. Paul is fortunate to have this program because it allows kids the opportunity to become bilingual. I hope LNFI continues to be a strong elementary program (K – 5) and is able to stay in one building – anywhere in the city of St. Paul. Close Quote
