Summary

Twin Cities Academy is a public charter high school serving grades 6-12 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, with 523 students. The school is part of the Twin Cities Academy District, which is ranked 404 out of 446 districts in the state and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Twin Cities Academy consistently underperforms the state average on MCA-III proficiency tests in both math and reading across all grade levels. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's 11th-grade math proficiency rate was 11.49% compared to the state average of 34.96%. The school's performance is particularly low for certain student subgroups, such as Asian, African American, Hispanic, and Special Education students, who rank in the bottom quartile of Minnesota high schools. However, the school's English Language Learner (ELL) students perform relatively better, ranking in the top half of Minnesota high schools for ELL proficiency.

Compared to nearby schools, such as Leap High School, Saint Paul Online High School, and Face to Face Academy, Twin Cities Academy's performance is generally lower, with the exception of Face to Face Academy, which demonstrates that high-quality education is possible in the local area. The school's declining statewide ranking over the years, from 62nd out of 504 high schools in 2014-2015 to 401st out of 450 in 2024-2025, is a concerning trend that warrants further investigation and the implementation of comprehensive improvement strategies.

Open Quote We took our son out of public school because he was struggling to pass. We found one of the highest ranked middle schools in MN, Twin Cities Academy, and drove him into St. Paul each day from Lake Elmo. It was well worth it. He is now in his second year in college and says that college is easier than Twin Cities Academy. What we loved about the school is their willingness to go the extra mile for struggling kids like ours - extra math classes, extra writing classes, whatever kids needed. Unlike our public school experience, this school would not let kids fall through the cracks. As a parent, I know that I have often questioned some of my parenting decisions, but this is one I have never regretted. Close Quote
