Summary:

Waconia Public School District serves roughly 3,860 students across seven schools in Minnesota: three PK–5 elementaries — Southview Elementary, Bayview Elementary and Laketown Elementary — one middle school for grades 6–8, and three high schools, two of which are very small specialty settings. The district ranks 27th of 458 in the state, placing it in the 94th percentile with five stars. Nearly all students — 99.1% — attend the five comprehensive schools; Waconia Learning Center (25 students) and Transitions 110 (11 students) together enroll just 36.

Laketown Elementary and Waconia Middle School are the district's flagships, each earning 5 stars and sitting at the 94th percentile statewide — top 6% in Minnesota. Laketown posts the district's highest proficiency in every subject (Math 74.9, Reading 68.8, Science 43.0), while Waconia Middle has the highest absolute math and reading scores (64.4 and 63.7). Among the elementaries, the differences are grade-specific: Southview's 5th-grade math (50.0) sits 29–31 points below its own 3rd and 4th grades, while Bayview (52.0 → 61.5 → 71.4) and Laketown (58.0 → 69.8 → 79.1) show reading proficiency rising steadily by grade. Southview's reading is essentially flat across the same grades.

Waconia High School is solid but ordinary on math and reading — 71st–76th percentile, and the only comprehensive school without 5 stars — although its math score (31.1) is nearly identical to the district's own 11th-grade figure (30.5), so same-grade comparisons matter. Its standout is science: 61.8% proficient at End of Course versus 35% statewide. That figure rose 41.6 points in a single year, making it worth verifying before treating it as real improvement. Overall the district looks stable rather than improving, with district math down 1.9 points and reading down 2.6. Note also that the Learning Center's 2025–2026 test scores are state-suppressed — unknown, not zero — and results at both specialty settings rest on very small numbers.
