Summary

Willow Ridge Elementary School in Grand Ledge, MI, is a high-achieving K-4 school serving 542 students as part of the highly-rated Grand Ledge Public Schools district.

Willow Ridge consistently ranks among the top schools in the region, landing in the 89th percentile statewide for the 2025-2026 school year. This puts it well ahead of other schools in the same district, such as Wacousta Elementary School (67th percentile) and TC Holbrook Elementary School (48th percentile), and far above schools in neighboring districts like Winans Elementary School (12th percentile) in Waverly Community Schools. Test scores tell a similar story: 67.8% of 4th graders were proficient in math, compared to 47.1% for the district and just 39.4% statewide. In 3rd grade ELA, 65.1% of students were proficient versus 38.2% statewide. The school has shown remarkable consistency, improving from the 80th percentile in 2021-2022 to a peak of 95th percentile in 2024-2025. It also achieves these results efficiently, spending $13,112 per student—less than lower-performing neighbors like Cumberland School in Lansing Public School District, which spends $22,109 per student. Chronic absenteeism is notably low at 15.2%, less than half the state average of 27.9%.

Willow Ridge shows exceptional results with its Hispanic students, who ranked in the 92nd percentile statewide. However, the school faces a clear challenge supporting its Special Education students, who ranked in the 26th percentile in 2025-2026—a drop from 37th percentile the prior year. While the school excels overall, this area represents an opportunity for targeted improvement to ensure success for every learner.

Open Quote Communication between parents and teacher very poor. If your child needs extra help, good luck getting it. Principal Dr. Johnson is not approachable at all. We have tried requesting meetings, be proactive, and have open communication with the teachers and principal. Not a good response at all! Now in 5th grade... I give up! Cant wait for 6th grade to be over... and out of Willow Ridge. Close Quote
