Cambridge Alternative High School consistently ranks in the bottom 10-15% of Michigan high schools, with academic performance significantly below the state and district averages across various subjects and grade levels. For example, in 2024-2025, only 12.7% of 11th-grade students were proficient or better in M-Step/Science, compared to 17.1% for the Garden City Public Schools district and 34.9% for the state of Michigan. Compared to nearby schools, such as Garden City High School, Cambridge Alternative High School performs significantly worse across various metrics, including academic achievement, graduation rates, and chronic absenteeism. The school's high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds and relatively high student-teacher ratio may be contributing factors to its poor performance. While the school has seen an increase in per-student spending over the years, additional resources alone may not be enough to address the school's challenges, and a more comprehensive approach focused on improving teaching and learning, student engagement, and addressing socioeconomic barriers may be necessary.

Open Quote My brother was not going to graduate because of some childish mistakes he had made. Cambridge center has turned his life around. He works everyday with autistic children and teens and he loves it. He will be graduating on May 29th 2009 and I couldn't be more proud of him! This school has done an amazing job with him.
