Summary

Fallsmead Elementary is a high-performing K-5 school in Rockville, MD, serving 512 students within the Montgomery County Public Schools district, and it consistently ranks in the top 10% of all elementary schools in Maryland.

Fallsmead’s most impressive strength is its exceptional math performance, with 68.1% of students proficient—nearly double the district average and more than 2.5 times the state average. This places it among the top schools in the area, though it is slightly behind elite neighbors like Cold Spring Elementary (86.6%) and Beverly Farms Elementary (75.5%). The school also maintains remarkably consistent proficiency rates across all grades in both math and English Language Arts, suggesting a strong, vertically-aligned curriculum that supports student learning year after year. Additionally, Fallsmead has a very low chronic absenteeism rate of 9.8%, less than half the district average, indicating high student and family engagement.

Fallsmead is also notably effective at supporting its Special Education students, ranking 8th out of 136 schools statewide for this subgroup. While the school serves a relatively affluent community, it has a more economically diverse student body than its highest-performing neighbors, yet still achieves outstanding results. One area to watch is a decline in 5th-grade science proficiency, which dropped from 69.5% to 56% over two years, though it remains well above state averages. Overall, Fallsmead offers a top-tier education with strong resource management, making it a valuable option for families seeking a high-quality, less pressured environment than some of its top-ranked peers.

Open Quote Academically, not too bad but socially, there is MUCH to be improved. Many issues with theft among students and bullying. Principal is very passive about it and effective action is never taken, only reactive responses. Not 5 stars in my book by any means. Close Quote
