Open Quote Dundalk High School is a mess. There aren't enough GT or Hon. kids, so they combine the two levels together, putting the honors kids in GT, which only results in the GT kids not being able to learn to their full potential. In some cases, such as tenth grade World History, there are only two options: AP, or Standard.

Also, with the recent schedule change from 8 periods (A Day/B Day), to the 6 period a day schedule, it's caused many of the seniors in parallel enrollment with Sollers Tech to take summer school, because they didn't plan on having the two less periods, and what with their required magnet classes, plus their completer classes, and the required classes (Health, Gym, Fine Arts, English, Math, Science), they don't have enough room to take all of their classes, and some are faced with having to repeat a year or take night school to pass. Another bad thing is that due to a lack of funding and teachers, the school dropped Creative Writing at all levels starting the school year of 09-10.

You can't go a day without seeing multiple students doing such things as smoking cigarettes and weed on Breezeway, drinking, spraying Silly String at Mr. Shouldice, having sex in the bathrooms, and cutting classes by leaving from the courtyards.

I myself am a magnet student who transfered out of Dundalk to Towson High School Law and Public Policy, and I get up every morning at 5:15am to take the magnet bus to Towson just to avoid the chaos at Dundalk.

Thanks for your time,

Class of 2012. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
