Saugus Middle School is a grades 6–8 school in Saugus, MA, serving 616 students in a town north of Boston. In 2025–2026 it ranks 298th of 478 Massachusetts middle schools (38th percentile, 2 stars), up from 348th in 2023–2024 but below its earlier 43rd-percentile peak. Its district, Saugus, ranks 271st of 351 statewide, so the school is currently one of the stronger performers in its own district even though it remains below the state average overall.

Compared with 11 nearby middle schools, Saugus Middle School is middle-tier: 5th of 11 overall. It trails Melrose Middle, Galvin Middle School, Stoneham Central Middle School, and Garfield Middle School overall, but is above Rumney Marsh Academy and several schools in Revere, Lynn, and Chelsea. The standout is 8th grade math at 53.98% proficiency, higher than every nearby school and more than 12 points above the state. Science has also improved sharply, from 21.89% in 2023–2024 to 36.25% in 2025–2026, now 4th of 11 nearby. By contrast, 7th grade math is a severe weak point at 17.86%, nearly 20 points below the state, and ELA is the clearest overall weakness at 23.96%, 7th of 11 nearby and well below the state. Subgroup results are uneven. Special education students improved to the 50th percentile, and low-SES students rose to the 45th percentile, but English Language Learner students dropped to the 13th percentile from 55th the prior year—a clear red flag. Overall, Saugus Middle School is an improving, middle-tier school with real strengths in 8th grade math and science, and clear priorities in ELA across all grades, 7th grade math, and ELL support. It is not at the bottom of its peer group, but it remains well behind high-performing nearby districts such as Melrose, Wakefield, and Stoneham.
