Summary

Amigos School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Cambridge, MA, with 418 students. The school consistently ranks among the top 15% of elementary schools in Massachusetts, delivering exceptional academic outcomes for its diverse student population.

Amigos School significantly outperforms the Cambridge district and the state of Massachusetts on MCAS Next Generation assessments across all grades and subjects. In 2024-2025, 70.2% of Amigos students were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 58.41% in Cambridge and 41.53% statewide. In math, 67.48% of Amigos students were proficient or better, compared to 56.16% in Cambridge and 40.74% statewide. The school also ranks among the top 10 in Massachusetts for Hispanic and white student performance, indicating it effectively supports students from diverse backgrounds.

Amigos School's strong academic performance is likely attributed to its high spending per student ($29,062 in 2020-2021) and low student-teacher ratio of 10.6, which is lower than many nearby schools like John M Tobin and Martin Luther King Junior. While Amigos excels overall, the school could focus on supporting its special education and low socioeconomic status students, as their performance lags behind the school's exceptional results.

Open Quote Strong, supportive school environment and engaged parent community. The dual-language environment has been a wonderful experience for our child. As we already speak Spanish and English with our kids, the Amigos school was actually one of the reasons we moved to Cambridge, and fortunately the lottery worked in our favor. Great experience so far. Facilities could be nicer, but it is a public school after all and the kids could care less! Close Quote
