Summary

Edison K-8 School is a public elementary school located in Brighton, MA, serving grades PK-8 with a total enrollment of 584 students. The school is part of the Boston school district, which is ranked 298 out of 348 districts in Massachusetts and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Edison K-8 School consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Massachusetts elementary schools, with a statewide ranking between 800-900 out of over 900 schools in recent years. The school's performance on MCAS Next Generation assessments is significantly below the state and Boston district averages across all grades and subjects. While the school struggles to support the academic achievement of various student subgroups, it performs relatively better for English Language Learners and Special Education students. Despite having a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 8.6 to 9.6 students per teacher, the school's high per-student spending of around $30,000 does not translate into strong academic outcomes.

When comparing Edison K-8 School to nearby schools within the Boston district, it performs significantly worse than its peers. For example, the Winship Elementary School, located just 0.28 miles away, consistently outperforms Edison K-8 School on MCAS assessments by a wide margin, with proficiency rates that are 30-40 percentage points higher. This suggests that the school's academic challenges may not be solely attributable to the socioeconomic factors of its student population, as nearby schools with similar demographics are able to achieve significantly better academic outcomes.

Open Quote My daughter, who is special needs, attends this school. This school is the only school I have experienced that bends over backward for special needs students instead of trying to avoid providing services. Most schools try to push out special needs students and this school does an amazing job of nurturing them. They also have a very rigorous curriculum. My daughter receives foreign language instruction, computer programming, robotics, and theater. She loves this school and has done an amazing job. Her teachers are extremely nice and the principal makes herself available anytime. I can't say enough about this school. My daughter has been to many schools and has struggled so much but we are blessed to have her attend the Edison school. Close Quote

Open Quote My son is just finishing up K1 (pre-k). We have been thrilled with the staff. His teacher is terrific! She promotes curiosity, growth, and self awareness. She is structured but they have choice time. The art projects they do are amazing using a host of different materials. Very creative! The principle is awesome. She knows every kid's name and is VERY visible. Always around and engaging. The school staff look out for all the kids which is comforting when sending a little one. The little kids are sort of separated from the big kids with 2 cafeterias but also integrate. The high achiever big kids are mentors for the little ones and read to the kids. Our son's class has structure but also creative time. He's learned so much soaking it all in....science music art dance math etc. They have a specialty class everyday, put on performances in the auditorium. They are planning to renovate the playground this summer. We really like it and our son loves going to school. Close Quote
