Open Quote Heath is a great school- great education, caring and involved parents, diverse student body with largely high achieving students. Ranks the best of all 8 schools in Brookline. Great principle (Carrie Wilson) and most of the teachers are really strong-- Lindsay Bingenheimer (1st grade), Vicky Ferstler (3rd grade) and Kathleen O'Connell (4th grade) have been stand-out teachers for us. Avoid Chari Dalsheim (2nd grade)-- she is emotionally abusive to her students and made my child feel anxious and afraid. (Lots of complaints against her but she has tenure!) The art teacher, Mr. P. is top notch, as is the music teacher, Meredith Huntley. I've also heard great things about all the teachers for 6-8th grade. Having the K-8 model for Brookline schools is so great-- it keeps the older kids young longer and allows all the grades to intermingle successfully.

Spend the extra money for a Brookline house-- you can save some money buying in Newton, but the middle schools are toxic for kids and the culture is way too high pressured, given that the schools aren't as high performing as Brookline. My one complaint is that way too much money and time goes to special needs and not enough money and time to high performing kids. But this is sadly true everywhere. Close Quote
