Page Hilltop Elementary School is a PK–5 school in Ayer, MA, serving 539 students as part of the Ayer Shirley School District. It is the larger of the district's two elementary schools and among the larger elementaries in the immediate area. In 2025–2026 it ranked 362nd of 899 Massachusetts schools (60th percentile, 3 stars), while the district ranked 158th of 351 (55th percentile, 3 stars). The school's rank has swung recently: 72nd percentile in 2021–2022, down to 46th in 2024–2025, then back up to 60th in 2025–2026.

On 2025–2026 MCAS tests, Page Hilltop scored above state averages in all three subjects: ELA at 44.59% proficient (state 40.03%), math at 48.48% (state 41.11%), and science at 44.23% (state 40.98%). It clearly outperforms its same-district peer, Lura A. White Elementary School, in every subject and in overall rank. However, several nearby schools post higher ELA and math results, including Blanchard Memorial School, Hildreth Elementary School, Florence Roche School, Russell St Elementary, Day Elementary, and John A. Crisafulli Elementary School. Math is Page Hilltop's standout strength, above district and state at grades 3, 4, and 5. The clearest weak spot is 5th grade ELA, at 34.62% — the only tested area where the school falls below both district and state.

How well the school serves individual student groups is mixed. Its effectiveness for Hispanic students has been consistently strong (73rd percentile in 2025–2026) and was exceptionally high for African American students that year (96th percentile, based on a single year of data). At the same time, effectiveness for special education students dropped from the 82nd percentile in 2023–2024 to the 44th in 2025–2026, and for low-income students from the 84th to the 55th. Resources don't appear to be the main factor: the student-teacher ratio is a favorable 12.5, and per-student spending is mid-range locally. Overall, this is a solid, improving, mid-tier school that beats state averages and leads its own district, but still trails most high-performing neighbors.
