Summary

Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is a K–12 charter school at 770 Salem Street in Malden, MA, enrolling 1,698 students — the largest school in its comparison group and the only school in the Mystic Valley Regional Charter (District). Its operating record is unusually steady: a 96.1% graduation rate in 2024–25 after 100.0% in each of the three prior years, a 0.0% dropout rate for four consecutive years, and a student–teacher ratio of 15.5, improved from 16.3 and 16.6. Per-pupil spending of $15,001 (2020–21) is the lowest of any school in the comparison set.

On the 2025–26 MCAS, the school scored above the state at every grade and subject tested: 61.63% proficient in English language arts (state 40.03), 66.15% in math (state 41.11), 56.06% in science (state 40.98), 76.64% in Biology and 58.45% in 8th-grade Civics. High school is the standout — 92.68% in 10th-grade ELA and 91.46% in 10th-grade math, each more than double the state rate. Results build as students move up: 4th-grade ELA (48.03) and 8th-grade science (52.82) are the narrowest margins over the state, while all-grade math has climbed for four years, from 58.03 to 66.15.

Among large charter peers, MVRCS leads KIPP Academy Lynn Charter School by more than 25 points in every subject. The Pioneer Charter School of Science and Pioneer Charter School of Science II post comparable math and science scores, so MVRCS's efficiency edge is real but not unique. Note that its real peers are these charters, not the small specialized schools sharing its "Alternative" label — Melvin H. King South End Academy, Horace Mann School for the Deaf Hard of Hearing, Devens School and Carter School serve far fewer students at three to eight times the per-student cost. This is a LECTURE BASED school. It’s a good school but their attendance policy is 20 days max, and 3 dismissals is an absence, their sp.ed is OKAY FOR SOME,NOT ALL. The curriculum is challenging, and it is not for everyone. They have required MCAS classes and they pressure you to do more, like after school MCAS and Saturday MCAS. Other than the stupid uniform policy, it’s not Terrible, but not the greatest. After attending here, my gpa went from 2.7 to a 3.8, so obviously they are doing something right. Close Quote
