Schools in Pioneer Valley include three schools serving students from prekindergarten through grade 12: Pioneer Valley Regional (grades 7–12), Bernardston Elementary (PK–6), and Northfield Elementary (PK–6), with 581 students total in this small western Massachusetts area. The district is ranked 228th of 351 in Massachusetts, at the 35th percentile with 2 stars, while the individual schools rank higher.

Among the elementary schools, Northfield Elementary is the science standout: 69.23% of all grades were proficient in science, far above the district's 40.63% and the state's 40.98%, and its 5th grade science was also 69.23%. Bernardston Elementary is stronger than the state in all-grade math (43.09% vs. 41.11%) and science (47.22% vs. 40.98%). Both elementary schools lag in English language arts—29.41% at Northfield Elementary and 30.89% at Bernardston Elementary, compared with the state's 40.03%—and 6th grade ELA is a shared weak point, at 18.75% and 19.05% respectively. Pioneer Valley Regional has high school bright spots: 10th grade ELA is 51.85%, above the state's 45.48%, and its graduation rate is 97.3% with a 2.7% dropout rate; it improved to the 53rd percentile and 3 stars in 2025–2026. However, its all-grade math is 24.30% and science is 28.89%, and science fell from 45.45% to 28.89% year over year.

Rank trends are mostly positive: Northfield Elementary rose from the 40th to the 47th percentile, Pioneer Valley Regional reached the 53rd percentile, and Bernardston Elementary stayed in the mid-40s. Enrollment is 239 at Pioneer Valley Regional, 201 at Bernardston Elementary, and 141 at Northfield Elementary. Student-teacher ratios are similar, from 10.1 to 10.8.
